Biography
Dr. Arcovedo attended the Mexican School of Medicine of La Salle University, from 1985 through 1991. At the end of medical school, he greatly enjoyed his rural stint as a primary care physician. It allowed him to experience the delightful feeling of caring for others and be part of a small community. In 1992 he pursued his specialization in the United States. In 1993 he joined the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Program in General Surgery in Chicago. He soon assumed a leadership role and graduated from the program in 1999. He fell in love with minimally invasive surgery. During his residency he became proficient with the utilization of the ultrasonographer. Then, he traveled to University of Heidelberg, Mannheim Germany where he acquired broader and finer skills in ultrasound. In Mannheim, Dr. Arcovedo was certified by the German Society of Ultrasound in Medicine as a sonographer. He has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery since 2000. His duty to the populations in need took him to Sri Lanka as part of Doctors without Borders. It was by far the best experience of his life. He realized the true basics of human existence. He returned to his home country to practice in a public hospital. The relationship with his Mexican peers turned out to be an enriching one. He obtained Board Certification by the Consejo Mexicano de Cirugia in the year 2000. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as the International College of Surgeons. Following up with his interest in ultrasonography, he became an instructor of the National Faculty of Ultrasound of the American College of Surgeons. In 2000, he left Mexico to take care of an underserved area in Iowa, USA. He became the Chief of Surgery at Mitchell County Regional Health Center. The range of procedures performed went from cesarean sections to laparoscopic colectomies. In 2005, Dr. Arcovedo joined the Coast Surgical Group in San Diego, CA and has since become quite busy. His personal interests are usually related to nature such as diving, hiking, birdwatching, exploring remote natural areas. While in the urban jungle, he enjoys world music, cultural events and ethnic food. He became passionate about wine. Through a long process he has become a winemaker and does this in Mexico's famous Valle de Guadalupe.
