Biography
Dr. Zapatel is a board certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, and General (adult) Psychiatrist. He was born in San Francisco, California, and was raised in the US and Mexico. Upon completing Medical School in Guadalajara, Mexico he returned to the US for residency in Adult Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry through the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry. After training for 5 years in Boston, he relocated to San Diego, California mostly because of the bicultural aspects of “America’s Finest City” and to be close to family. His interests are in mood disorders, PTSD/anxiety disorders, ASD and ADHD. He is a knowledgeable and skilled at psychopharmacologic approaches, but thoughtful and always will listen to his patients. He has 20 years experience and practices in many settings including the public and private sector, as well as having a hospital based practice. He enjoys spending time with his family, the outdoors and travelling.
